NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

I know i am late for the party, be it the Lunar calendar or the Gregorian calendar but hey, all these are merely human constructions right?

I lost my phone last week. It sucks even more not knowing how i lost it. I don't know why bad things always happen to my phone. Am i cursed or what? But throughout this period, i received much concern from friends (and... even family but they deserve a standalone post, should i write about them). My LG tried to rack their brains on where i could even possibly lose the phone in the first place, friends kept checking with me on the status of my phone and helped me to think of alternatives.

Omg, disgress for awhile. JJ Lin's Twilight is playing in the background as i am typing this. How apt LOLOLOL. I shall insert his music video here.



Basically I felt very touched and supported. I probably i wouldn't have bother much if the tables were turned :/  It made me realised how loved i was and it made me think, ohmygod what have i been doing all these while??

For those who have been following my blog, you may know that i've always struggled to want to be close to people. I understand the importance of having good friends and to get (emotional) support from others, but i couldn't bring myself to do so mainly because i didn't see the need for myself. I've always been able to get by alone except for certain times in the year when my emotions run a little amok. During those times, it dawned upon me that i really don't have anyone that i want to talk to about my problems. And i feel so far off from everybody. But even then, a good night sleep had always worked for me. I would wake up the next day and manage my emotions more effectively.

I decided i was sick of this cycle earlier this year. No more operating alone. True la, most of the time i don't feel affected but when it hits, it really sucks ok. So I prayed to God to send me someone that i can trust in my current ministry (i start small, ask for one first hahaha). I also prayed to God for the softening of my heart towards others. And He has presented me a lot of opportunities, which i am thankful for.

Not that i pour my heart out to every living thing i see but i have been making a conscious effort to start talking about my feelings to the people around me. Over the years, I've become such a good listener (be it because of circumstances or because of the roles i have to play) that it's weird when the spotlight shines on me. And also because i know that sometimes people ask just to troubleshoot and not exactly because they want to know about your life (ok la maybe it's just me T.T) so i just give some shallow answers in response.

An intermission: If you're reading this, i just want to firstly say thank you because you're most likely a regular reader of my blog. I think if you do not have any interest in me, you'd probably stop following this space a long time ago since it's not all that interesting at all. So yes, thank you for keeping me in your radar and journeying through with me :)

As a concerned friend, you may feel the urge to try to egg me on to share. But if i clam up, please don't continue to push me. It means either i am not ready to share with you or i am not ready to share about the content. At the appropriate time, with the appropriate person, i will share appropriate stuff. Don't be offended though. It is not a competition to see who can pry me apart. This is my growth process and i trust that you, being part of this, can see this with a holistic perspective. What you can do instead is to keep me in prayers. Prayers may take place in a dark corner where people do not see or realise but i believe that true concern needs no attention to itself, and only seeks the wellbeing of others. So yes, thank you in advance!

Other than that, i have been trying to know various people from NYC e.g. the weekly exercises where i can interact with the juniors and people outside of my own LG. I can't possibly go deep with everyone but i can make effort to get to know others.

I am only left with 1.5 years in NYC. I want to try to invest a little more in this community.

I have a tendency to be hopeless towards the future. Not my future, but the future future. All i see is negativity and morality spiralling down. People are caving into sin; people are celebrating sin; people are becoming more and more individualistic; people are challenging authority; people are prideful; people who explicitly claim to know Jesus doesn't even know Him... There are so many things for us to stand up for and there are so many things against us and yet Christians are the minority in this world. There are so many spiritual wars going on and yet we are to be meek, getting slapped and trampled over and over again. Its not just about "me". When you have a deep relationship with Christ, you'll start to catch His heartbeat for people and sometimes it is really painful to see what He sees, to feel what He feels.

Here's a honest thought: There are times i wished i was dead. I am not suicidal. I just cant be bothered with the world anymore - i just want to be with Jesus. But i am still alive. And there is a reason why this world is still functioning even though it is so lost already.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

There's one theory i've learnt in class called the Spectacle Society (refer to previous post's photo). It basically refers to how the world is increasingly taking what is real based on what is projected. Images can be easily manipulated but we still choose to be taken in by it. One example would be Instragram. We only see pretty photos and think that xxx has a perfect life. But we do not see the behind the scenes - how long he/she took to take a photo or even how much he/she has to work in order to afford a certain luxury. We dont think of all that because we dont see it. We only take reality as what is projected to us.

And i think that is so true. There is an idiom in Chinese that goes “好事不出门，坏事传千里”。It translates into good news never step out of the house while bad news travel thousand miles. An article about a demonstration/ virus outbreak / animal abuse (not even in Singapore) will garner more attention rather than say How To Honour Your Parents. I scroll through my Facebook feed and i find more negative news report than positive ones. People are also slamming Christianity. Everything floods and overwhelms me. It affects my outlook on reality. But as i am typing this, crusades are being held; thousands of people are dedicating their lives to Christ; people are standing up for their faith; people are being called out by God to be fisher of men. The only difference is that these news do not travel far and wide. I now understand the power of testimony. Truly, testimonies can save lives and give hope. 

The Bible promised us that we are indeed living in a fallen world and yes our fight is not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities. But the Bible also said for us to have hope. For we trust in a living, resurrected God who has already beaten death and claimed victory forevermore.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

The sting of death is sin, and khe strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I woke up this morning with the song Yellow stuck in my head (Btw, the word in the gif should be look instead of see). Dont you ever wonder how a random song can suddenly pop in your head for no good reason? Or how you can easily play a song in your head while activating your brain cells for other purposes simultaneously?

This song is so beautiful in so many levels, in so many ways. I am glad that i rediscovered it today.

I finally broke my Youtube fast.

40 days. 40 DAYS. It's very hard because for me, my online life = drama, youtube and blog/tumblr. I cant listen to music when im working. I dont own any mp3/ipod because im bad with gadgets and i dont see the point in them when i can store songs in my phone.

My phone. Only has 100 songs and it consists mainly of Christian songs with a few indie picks here and there. I actually wanted to transfer more songs but the stupid Andriod File Transfer stopped working after the first time for who knows why. So i have been playing repeated songs to death ever since i got my phone... which is 1/2 year ago.

Many new songs came out during my fasting period. One Direction (hm, wouldnt call myself a fan but after looking at the gifs with lyrics on tumblr, i was curious) and Taylor Swift, X Factor and...

"Omg have you watched Dumb Ways To Die? Damn funny!"

Sigh.

Now that i have broke my fast, i figured that it seems appropriate to have a spam of youtube videos!

Actually i have quite a number of favourites from her. There's no deny that she is quite a talented composer. All her songs are soooo catchy. The list includes Red, I Knew You Were Trouble, Stay Stay Stay, The Lucky One and Girl At Home.

But my favourite is Red. I just really like how Taylor Swift used colours to form the emotions behind the lyrics.



Dear Death by Anthony Neely

The Chinese and English title are totally different. 讓我愛她 means let me love her in English, not Dear Death. But if you listen to the song you would know why the title is Dear Death. Basically this song is written to Death/God (a higher being that controls humans' fate) and the singer begging for his loved one to live on.

The chorus goes something like this:

Have you (referring to death/god) had enough?!!!!!

You'd better not take the opportunity to punish me when I have her by my side

The English translation does the original lyrics no justice. 1 Chinese character can have a lot of deep meanings behind it so it is really hard to bring forth the emotion when i translate. You need to multiply the feelings by a hundredfold then maybe you would get the gist of the song.

I really like this song because unlike most love songs, this is actually written in a different angle whereby it is complaining and screaming haha.

Gain's new solo album

I love Gain. I dont know if she did surgery before but im glad that at least for her eyes, she did not do any touch up. I think she is one of the most beautiful monolids women ever. It reminds me of Xiao Wen Ju, a China model who is damn beautiful. Inserts XWJ's photos.

Back to Gain. For a woman so fierce (in WGM), she has such a sweet & sensual voice. Her solo albums always leaned towards the raunchy side so its no surprise her teasers are very sexualised. But oh my god. All her teasers sound damn awesome.

Cher Lloyd's Oath

I've said this before and im going to say it again. I really love Cher Lloyd's voice and personality but im not sure if i would call myself a fan. Honestly, i am disappointed with her new single. Not that its bad but because i know she could have done so much better. Her vocals is still awesome just that the song choices really suck lor. All my favourite songs from her previous album are songs like Beautiful People and Superhero. Her hit singles really took me a long time to get used to it because i think she suits those really emotional and powerful songs instead of pop songs like Want You Back.

I mean its cute and all but she deserves better songs than that.

Actually idk if its Cher Lloyd or her company that actually chooses the songs. I assumed its the company because the songs she sing are a huge change from her X Factor days and im so sad ): I guess Cheryl Cole kinda chose her songs during X Factor but i really liked those choices better T_T

Decided to put in the acoustic session because i think it sounds better than the MV haha. Still, she looks  soooooo gorgeous.

This song took me by surprise. I randomly discovered it (Youtube's Narnia). The song was released a few weeks ago. I thought i wouldn't enjoy it very much when i heard it but by the time it reached the chorus, i really love this song. I find it funny how she remains expressionless throughout the video hahahaha. The video is damn cool too. Except that she wasted a lot of paper. My heart breaks ):

I Wish by FT Island

FT Island is baaaaaaaack! YES! I CAN HEAR HONGKI'S VOICE AGAIN! I dont think i can ever be sick of his voice. It is so powerful and unique. It doesnt hurt that he looks handsome too *shy*

I am actually very sad that this band is not as popular as other korean bands out there. Because this band is a 100% power band! Like srsly. Everyone is so talented. And each member actually plays an instrument/sing. As for other korean bands, they rely heavily on packaging. I dont mean that they dont have talent but you gotta admit that the way they package themselves helped a lot. And also the dance moves and all.

Actually, i dont care if a person can dance or not. You're in the music industry, the main focus should be on your vocals or instruments rather than how well you can dance, you know? Look at most korean bands now. If you stripped away their packaging, their looks and their dance moves, will you be able to differentiate one from another? I know that Big Bang has a lot of focus on their packaging and dance moves but if you stripped away all those, they are still the best. I mean, have you heard GD or Daesung sing?? Every time i listen to Daesung in Fantastic Baby when he has to reach the high notes powerfully, my jaw drops. I really dont know how he does it. And GD, he just has this magical tone to his voice. Soothing - even when he is rapping. Packaging aids them but it is not the reason why they do so well.

Honestly, most korean bands sound the same nowadays but FT Island is one of the few exception. Which is why i find them refreshing and i appreciate them so much.

That XX by G-Dragon

THIS is exactly what i meant. Both the song and the MV are very meaningful unlike most korean bands out that singing about love and rapping about nonsensical stuff =.= Nothing against love songs but im literally drowning in it. Some of them are really terrible. Classic example: No More Perfume On You by Teen Top. The title turns people off already but the lyrics is another level of horrible. It is portrays cheating in a good light. Srsly? =.= And because of these kind of things, people have a stigma when it comes to kpop which makes me sad because THERE ARE GOOD SONGS/BANDS OUT THERE OK.

Out of the MVs and songs that GD released for his new album, That XX is my favourite. It sounds very smooth and melodious. The only thing I cant stand about the MV/song is that they bleep out the curse word. So in every chorus you will hear that irritating beep. Hence the 'XX' in the title. I went to download the non-clean version because i dont understand Korean anyway so im not offended by whatever he was cursing hahahaha.

The MV is so meaningful too. It actually has many underlying message and if you watch it carefully, it actually TELLS the actual meaning of the song. Yes, the song kind of has a double meaning. Go youtube 'eatyourkimchi that xx' for a detailed explanation.


Chau Chau by Deli Spice

When i heard the song in Running Man, i fell in love. It is just so nice and indie-ish. The lyrics are super duper mega ultra simple but the melody is so catchy. It makes me happy and dreamy, idk why haha. Definitely in my list of All-Time Favourites.

Omg, i have been searching for this song like mad! I used to love it in secondary school days but i had forgotten about it. Once in a while, it will pop into my head and all i can remember is that the lyrics has the word "train". Unfortunately that is not enough to find the song. A few weeks back, i was reading my old entries back in my sec sch days and i found one post with this song labelled as song of the day. HAHAHA I am so glad that i found it. After so many years, i still love the song.

Is it just me or does it reminds you of Phantom Of The Opera in a way?

Any song (I literally mean any song. This is not a title) by The Drums.
I discovered them on Youtube when i was just randomly clicking on interesting songs found at the sidebar. Usually i dont rip about an artists' songs. By that i mean when you look at my iTunes, you will realise that each artist only has a handful of songs. I just listen to their hits and yeah, thats about it. This applies to Cher Lloyd, Big Bang, FT Island etc. Yes, even Cher Lloyd, my idol. Which is why i dont call myself a fan. To qualify as a fan, the least you need to do is to know all of their songs right? But i dont. The best i can go is to admire the artiste, like how i admire Cher Lloyd. I guess the easiest way to understand this is that im not a fan of anybody. Im just a fan of good music. So anyway, i think i might have listened to just about all the songs from The Drums because they are awesome like that.

Recently, i've gotten very tired of Kpop songs. But! BIG BANG <3
They are really born to perform. Each one of them is so charismatic on stage and they are so so so talented! T.O.P with his awesome rapper skills; Daesung with his strong and sexy vocals; GD with his natural onstage presence; Taeyang with his soothing voice and sleek dance moves; Seungri's voice has improved tremendously!

Big Bang srsly never failed to impress me (Y) I have no interest in going for concerts. Because im lazy to queue up and i think fangirling over idols is really stupid. The only reason why i would want to go for a concert is to experience it for once. But its not a must, you know? Today, i have decided that i want to go for Big Bang's concert. I mean, they are so awesome live! Listening to their studio track, you'd think that its great enough. But their live performance always, always, always outdo their CD versions. I have no idea how its possible since you cant edit your voice during live performance!

And now, "Wow, fantastic baby!" is my favourite sarcastic response. LOL.

Just heard about the news of Jamie Hubley. He's a 15 year old Canadian boy who committed suicide because of bullying. Jamie Hubley was known to his friends as a happy kid who always smiled and gave hugs to people. However, he was depressed because people bullied him as he was gay.

"I hate being the only open gay guy in my school . . . It fucking sucks, I really want to end it,"

On his blog, he mentioned that being gay in high school was so hard. On Youtube there's an campaign called It Gets Better. It is where people relate their struggles to be accepted by the society about their sexuality. Referring to that, Jamie Hubley said that it was just too hard.

"I dont want to wait 3 more years, this hurts too much. How do you even know It will get better? Its not."

Jamie Hubley wrote a final post on his angst-filled blog to say goodbye to his family and friends before committing suicide. Do you know that suicide is the second-leading cause of death for Canadians between the ages of 10 and 24 and disproportionately affects gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth?

"I wish I could be happy, I try, I try, I try . . . I just want to feel special to someone,"

It's really sad why people would want to bully others. And why cant people accept others for who they are? Gay, lesbians, bisexuals, transgenders, whatever. All these are predetermined before birth. As a Christian, I believe that God made us perfect but sin made us imperfect and that we are born with sin. Scientifically speaking, there are scientists who believe that homosexuals are born that way. They dont have a choice.

Think about it: Who are we to judge and bully others? Are you perfect? Do you not lust? Are you not greedy? Have you not been envious of others?

Then there's the case where people always think that Christians are against homosexuality. NO. We are just against sin. Just as there are verses about homosexuality, there are also verses against other sins (eg. Lust).

Leviticus 18:22 "And you must not lie down with a male the same as you lie down with a woman. It is a detestable thing."

About lust

Matthew 5:29 "If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."

I dont know why people focused only on verses about homosexuality (when there so many other verses about other sins) which causes people to think that Christians hate homosexuals. 

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

The world. Not only Christians, not only "straight" people. But the entire world. Just to clear the air.

Anyway, i recently heard this old song called For You I Will (Confidence) by Teddy Geiger. Ohmygosh. Its such an old song and i remember how in love i was with the song. One of the best love songs eveeeeeer. I think i would just melt if any guy serenade me with this song. Like srsly.

Something interesting to share with you guys...
Have you heard of Hatsune Mika?

She is more than just an "anime" character. She is a singer. Really! She even had her own concert. You have to watch the following video. Omg, how did they even manage to visualise and make a virtual character dance??

The name of the title and the character of the software was chosen by combining Hatsu (初, first), Ne (音, sound), and Miku (未来, future) thus meaning "the first sound from the future." -Vocaloid.Wikia

I knew about Hatsune Mika long ago but wasnt really interested. I mean, she's just a software program that is popular perhaps due to the face that YAMAHA designed for her. But after knowing that she has her own concert (in US too!!) i am highly interested to know why are people so obsessed with her to the point where they would buy tickets to see a computer generated doll and voice live. Hello, its computer generated. It sounds the same whether if its a live concert or in a CD.

So i googled and i found some answers.

To start off Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid. Simply to say, if you composed a piece of song and have no one to sing for you (or no instruments), you can buy vocaloid to choose a computer generated voice/instruments. Hatsune Miku is only the name of a voice.



One of the reasons why she is (or vocaloid in general) is so popular is because in Japan, there are many budding music composers. So they post their originals songs on a certain websites to share their pieces. And to record the songs, they use vocaloids. Hatsune Miku is one of the most frequently used voice. Ryo, a composer that got professional through such websites, composed Melt sung by Hatsune Miku.  Apparently, it was downloaded more than 4 million times. Not bad, considering that he was just an amateur at that point of time.



Below is also Melt but it is an actual person singing. Sounds nicer, i think!



And i guess preceisely its Japan, the people would be fascinated and amazed by the technology. Most importantly, Yamaha did not package vocaloid as a software only. They created and advertised it as a character. Which is why the name of the voices sound like real names. Hatsune Miku is obviously the most used/popular voice among other vocaloids. She even has become the face of vocaloids. In fact, she is considered as one of the most successful singers in Japan. Keychains, wallets, posters, movies etc.

If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. ³⁰ Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. ³¹ Do to others as you would have them do to you.

The reason why i knew the person who stole my phone is Lastri was because his friend smsed me saying, "Lastri?" When the friend realised im not "Lastri" and when i asked if "Lastri" was the one who stole my phone, he did not reply.

I know it sounds crazy but i smsed the friend to tell "Lastri" that i forgave him.

I was really angry but then, i thought of my aunt. She had injured herself a few days back and was hospitalised. When i called her, she kept asking about my well being and my Christian life when i should be asking about her. She broke a bone and cant even take painkillers. In agony, she asked about me. And in the past, i did a lot of things that saddened her. I kept hurting her daughter when i was young.
I was reminded how selfless she is and that she had the heart to forgive me.

Besides, there's no use for me to be angry. What good would it do me to hate on someone that i dont even know? I wont get my phone back anyway.

Ephesians 4:32 ³² Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
