The +64 Zone Part 1: Getting away from the parents

If you know me, you would know that my memory is worse than a goldfish's. After nearly a month since the trip, i pretty much cant remember the details during the 4 days. All i know is that i shopped a lot and i want to shop again.

I shall begin to try recount the days in the +64 zone with the help of the photos taken using my phone.

Let's start off with the first day (i cant remember the date except that it was a Thursday). Woke up, got ready and boom, we were cruising in the air. I love to fly. And i enjoyed the flight except for the fact that it did not have any TV since it was a budget airline ):

Since Blogger does not have the tool to rotate the photo to the correct orientation, you will need to tilt your head:

I wish i could draw like Anginn ):

The taxi we booked prior to the trip did not arrive so we had to book another taxi from the airport. And the closest thing they could find to fit all 6 of us was an 18-seater mini bus. I would gladly upload the one and only photo which i took of the bus. Unfortunately, it features an explicit sight of a butt and i figured it wouldnt be nice to show the world someone's ass taken in an unflattering manner especially if it belongs to a friend. The journey was an hour long - mainly because the driver could not find our hotel since it was newly built on a teeny weeny street behind Pratunam Market.

We stayed in 93 Hotel which sounded suspicious to me only because the concept of the hotel name sounds terrifyingly similar to the notorious Hotel 81. But, it was a really nice hotel! I liked my room (and Tanya's since we shared a room together) best. It was nicely furnished with brown wallpapers and nice furnitures. We stayed on the third floor and the rooms are pretty small compared to the second floor. I know this because Cyril, who happened to be travelling to Bangkok with his friendsaround the same time as us stayed in the same hotel on the second floor. And their rooms looked big from the pics he sent.

The only photo i can show you of my room is this:

I took it to send my father so that he would know i had arrived safe and sound. You can see that the bed is big. It can fit 3 people easily. Anyway, it only costs us around S$100 for 4D3N which is not bad! Except for the fact that the train station is 20 minutes walk away. It may not sound much but when you're in a country as hot as Thailand, you probably wont enjoy walking under the sun. Plus the fact that the hotel is behind Pratunam Market so when you want to walk towards the city area, you'll need to push against the crowd. Unless you take the back alley which you will have to cover a little bit more distance.

A hipster-ish Polaroid sneakily snapped by Anginn. We were making our way to eat our dinner at this Muslim stall after we were settled down in our hotel. Dinner was delicious. I liked the plate of food that i ordered. I cant remember what it was called but i vaguely remember that it was fried noodles in sweet sauce?

We went to shop at Pratunam Market after dinner. My research lied to me because it was not a 24/7 market! It was already about to close at 7pm. We barely bought anything. And i thought i could do some late night shopping since it was so near our hotel ):

Busy streets are a common sight in Bangkok. A nice lady helped us to navigate from Pratunam to our next destination...
which was Mr Jones' Orphanage at Siam Center. The shop has the most beautiful concept - from the uniforms to the toys to the cutlery to even the WOODEN BOX which contains your receipt and you're to put the money into it - screams old school.

If you look at the top left hand corner of the above photo, you can see that they have this area dedicated to display the cakes in full glory. They picture does no justice, by the way. They have such a huge collection of cakes and everything looks so pretty!

If you refer to the center of the photo, you can see shop's signboard. Behind it, you can see that they have clockworks hung from the ceiling - all part of the concept.

Even the seats make you feel as if you are on a train, casually sipping your tea and eating your cakes as you watch the outside world pass by.

The cakes, however, were just ok in my opinion. I've tasted better. Perhaps its due to the cakes that we'd ordered? If only the ferrero rocher cake was still available! I'm sure it would have changed my mind for who can say no to ferrero rocher (besides people who sadly have allergies to either chocolate or nuts... or both)??

That's the MRT map to which i have outlined the main stations we would visit for the next few days. The toy soldiers placed around it makes it look like im studying a map for a war strategy, doesnt it?

Met Cyril who brought us to Big C Supermarket and they have this section filled with makeup where i went crazy in. Everything was so cheap!! I went to Bangkok with just a foundation and concealer and i came back with a whole makeup set. I bought mascara, eyeshadow palette (HA! THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST!), eyeliner and a few lip products.

I am going to abruptly end here because its time to do my QT and that's pretty much all the happened during the first day. Part 2 will come soon. Hopefully.
